Growing up in Pennsylvania
Sabrina grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania with three older sisters. She started singing very young and, as a child, posted cover videos online that helped her get noticed. Her dad even built her a small home studio so she could record. Acting came next, with small TV roles before she turned 12, including a guest part on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
Her family later moved to Los Angeles so she could take on bigger roles. That move paid off quickly, because Disney was already looking for its next young star.

The Disney Channel years
Sabrina was cast as Maya Hart in Girl Meets World, the sequel to the 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World. The show premiered in June 2014, a month after her 15th birthday, and ran for three seasons. At the same time, she signed with Hollywood Records and released her first single at 14.
What Sabrina did as a Disney teen
- Played Maya Hart in all three seasons of Girl Meets World
- Released her first EP and her first album before turning 16
- Sang songs for Disney soundtracks and specials
- Toured as a solo artist while still in her teens
Like many former Disney stars, she then had to prove she was more than a kid actress. She did it slowly, with four albums in four years and a run of film roles on Netflix.
The breakthrough at 25
Sabrina’s career took a huge leap in 2023, when she opened shows on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Then came Espresso in April 2024, released a month before she turned 25. The song went viral, topped charts around the world and became one of the defining hits of the summer.
Two months later, Please Please Please became her first number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, when she was 25. Her album Short n’ Sweet followed in August 2024 and also went to number one. After almost ten years of releasing music, she had become an overnight success.
Grammy winner at 25
In February 2025, at the age of 25, Sabrina won her first two Grammy Awards: Best Pop Vocal Album for Short n’ Sweet and Best Pop Solo Performance for Espresso. She also performed at the ceremony, a big moment for someone who started out singing covers in her bedroom.
Sabrina Carpenter’s zodiac sign: Taurus
With a May 11 birthday, Sabrina is a Taurus, the earth sign that covers late April to late May. In Chinese astrology, 1999 was the Year of the Rabbit, so she is a Rabbit too.
- Taurus traits: patient, loyal, determined and stylish
- Taurus loves comfort, good food and beautiful things
- Rabbit traits: gentle, clever and quietly ambitious
- Both signs are known for working steadily toward long-term goals
It fits her story well. Sabrina did not become famous overnight. She kept working for years until the right song found the right moment.

Sabrina Carpenter’s albums and her age at each release
One reason Sabrina’s story is so interesting is how many albums she released before she became a superstar. By the time Short n’ Sweet came out, she already had five albums behind her.
| Album | Release | Age |
|---|---|---|
| Eyes Wide Open | April 2015 | 15 |
| Evolution | October 2016 | 17 |
| Singular: Act I | November 2018 | 19 |
| Singular: Act II | July 2019 | 20 |
| Emails I Can’t Send | July 2022 | 23 |
| Short n’ Sweet | August 2024 | 25 |
| Man’s Best Friend | August 2025 | 26 |
The gap between Singular: Act II and Emails I Can’t Send was the longest of her career. In those three years she turned 21, starred in films and made her Broadway debut. Emails I Can’t Send, released when she was 23, is often described as the album where fans first heard the witty, confident songwriting that would later make Espresso a hit.
How old is Sabrina compared to other pop stars?
Sabrina is part of a new generation of female pop stars who all broke through around the same time. Here is how their ages compare.
- Taylor Swift, born December 13, 1989, is about nine and a half years older
- Chappell Roan, born February 19, 1998, is about 15 months older
- Sabrina Carpenter, born May 11, 1999
- Billie Eilish, born December 18, 2001, is about two and a half years younger
- Olivia Rodrigo, born February 20, 2003, is almost four years younger
Interestingly, Sabrina and Olivia Rodrigo both started on Disney Channel, and Chappell Roan beat Sabrina to the Best New Artist Grammy in 2025, even though Sabrina had been releasing music for over a decade. It shows how long some careers take to catch fire.
Sabrina and her Girl Meets World co-stars
On the Girl Meets World set, Sabrina was neither the oldest nor the youngest of the teen cast. Her on-screen best friend was played by an actress more than two years younger.
- Ben Savage (Cory Matthews), born September 13, 1980
- Peyton Meyer (Lucas Friar), born November 24, 1998
- Sabrina Carpenter (Maya Hart), born May 11, 1999
- Rowan Blanchard (Riley Matthews), born October 14, 2001
That means Rowan was only 12 when the show started, while Sabrina had just turned 15. The two played best friends of the same age, a common trick in TV, where actors are often older or younger than their characters.
Is Sabrina Carpenter Gen Z or a millennial?
Sabrina Carpenter is Gen Z. The Pew Research Center defines Gen Z as people born from 1997 to 2012, and with a 1999 birthday she sits in the older part of that generation. That puts her closer in age to many of her fans than most established pop stars.
It also explains a lot about how her career grew. Sabrina was a child when YouTube took off and a teenager when Instagram became huge, so sharing her music online came naturally. Years later, short clips of Espresso spread across TikTok and helped the song reach millions of people before most of them had ever heard her full albums. Her career is a good example of how a Gen Z artist can build a fan base slowly online and then break through all at once.
